Otto was such a kind and loving grandpa and great grandpa to our son in law (Otto), daughter (Bailey), and our three granddaughters (Peyton, Chloe and Addison). He will be very missed by us.
Otto Burns, 89, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Sunday, July 21, 2024. Born in Lafayette, IN, on May 7, 1935, he was the son of Otto George Burns and Alma Burns (Casterson).
Otto proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Betty, and they would have celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage this August. Otto was passionate about hunting, fishing, and drawing. He was a man of many talents—a true jack of all trades. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply.
Otto is survived by his wife, Betty Burns; children, Mike Burns, Karen (James) Richardson, Jennifer (Joe) Murphy, Otto (Wendy) Burns, Amanda Ballser, Melissa (Jim) Ballser, Cindy (Karl) Post, and Brian (Tammy) Burns; sister, Ruth Lockwood; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto George and Alma Burns, his daughter, Vicky Burns, and four siblings.
Family and friends may call at Tippecanoe Funeral Chapel from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2024, at Tippecanoe Funeral Chapel, 3631 Morehouse Road, West Lafayette, Indiana. Burial with military rites will follow.
