Marlys Jean Bohmer (94) passed peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024, surrounded by family at her residence at Five Star Senior Community in Lafayette, IN.

Marlys was born January 26, 1930, in Bismark, ND to James and Florence Eichmiller.  She attended North Dakota State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.  Upon completing her education with an internship at Duke University, she relocated to Cincinnati, OH to start her career as a Therapeutic Dietician.

While working at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, she would meet her future husband and love of her life, Glenn Bohmer, at a picnic held by Mt. Auburn Presbyterian.  Marlys and Glenn would be married on September 22, 1956, at First Methodist Church in Fargo, ND and were married for 67 years.  Marlys then continued her career at Walnut Hills High School before her children, Robert (Bob) and David, were welcomed into the world.  To allow her to care for her two sons, Marlys would work part-time at Bethesda Hospital and would retire from Clermont Mercy Hospital as Head Dietician.

Marlys was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Faith United Church of Christ in Cincinnati, OH. While attending Faith United, she served on the Church Board in multiple roles, including Church Treasurer. Her passions in the church included Women’s Ministry (where she would volunteer entrees, baked goods, and other donations for missions) and providing fresh-baked bread for Communion Sundays. Marlys always displayed her faithfulness through actions rather than words.

Marlys’ many hobbies and interests included reading, gardening, and fiber arts.  When not seeing to her lilies and tomatoes in the garden, Marlys could be found either playing cards with Glenn at their bridge club, watching college sports with her family, or teaching her grandchildren to cook.  She will always be remembered for her greatest accomplishment: being a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.

Marlys is survived by her sons, Robert (Renee) Bohmer of Houston, TX, and David (Sandy) Bohmer of Lafayette, IN; her grandchildren: Ashley (Ryan) Flynn of Lafayette, IN, Crystal (Ben) Wallace of Tampa, FL, Shelby Bohmer of Cincinnati, OH, and Michael Bohmer of Houston, TX; and her great-grandchildren: Quinn Wallace, Judah Wallace, and Piper Flynn.  Marlys is also survived by her brother, Ralph Eichmiller, of North Carolina.

Marlys is preceded in death by her parents, James and Florence Eichmiller.  She was greeted at the Gates of Heaven by her loving husband, Glenn Bohmer.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff at Five Star Residence in Lafayette, IN.  Special thanks to Jennifer, Billie, Juanita, and Abbie who lovingly took care of Marlys in her final months.

Funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dr. T.J. Jenney, will be held Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Tippecanoe Funeral Chapel located on Morehouse Road in West Lafayette. IN.  Visitation is one hour prior.  Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be sent to Faith United Church of Christ at 6886 Salem Road, Cincinnati, OH 45230.
