Linda Rowland passed away at home with her family on July 30, 2024. She was born on April 11, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, but spent most of her youth in Port Orchard, Washington, where she attended school, graduating with the class of ’62 from South Kitsap High.
Linda earned an Associate’s degree at Olympic Junior College in Bremerton, Washington, and planned to study Sociology at Central Washington State College. However, she met a sailor in her hometown and decided to become a wife and mother by profession. She followed her husband to Cheney, then Spokane, Washington, and finally Lafayette, with stops in Germany in between. After their children became young adults, she ventured out of the house and pursued social work for many years, first as a volunteer and then for pay.
She loved to read, go to the movies, and visit with friends and family. Linda was a crafter and a very good one. She made eye-popping tie-dye t-shirts during the 60s, wove beautiful baskets during the 70s, and ultimately settled on glass fusion, creating many pieces that many people thought were inventive and beautiful enough to buy (Visit Inspired Fire in Shadeland). But mostly, Linda made friends because she loved people, and they loved her back.
Linda is survived by her husband, Herb; her daughter Stefanie (José); her son, Marc; her grandsons Jackson (Melanie) and Isaac; her granddaughter, Grace; her brother Bobby (Pat); her sister, Jeannie (Dan), and numerous cousins and their children. Thanks to Sharon Spies, Dan, Jeannie, and Renae for their love and support during a difficult time. A celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
